What Fits in a Sofa Bed Storage Chaise?
By Alex at SOFGO ·

A storage chaise is one of the most useful things a corner sofa bed can have. The guest bedding lives inside the sofa, so the bed can be made up in minutes and the spare duvet stops taking over a wardrobe. But how much will it actually hold?
This guide explains how the storage works, how to read the compartment sizes on our product pages, what to keep in there, what to leave out, and how to keep stored bedding fresh. Prices and sizes were checked on live SOFGO product pages on 7 October 2026. The prices quoted are each sofa's normal price, so always check the product page for the current price before you order.
How the storage chaise works
On most corner sofa beds with storage, the space sits in the base under a seat section, very often the chaise: the long, deep end of the L. You lift that seat, the compartment is underneath, and when you lower it again it is simply part of the sofa. In the three open-seat photos in this guide, it is the chaise seat that lifts.
A few things are worth knowing before you buy:
- Where the compartment sits varies by model. Most of our corner sofa bed pages describe a "full-width storage compartment under the seat". The U Shape Goldcrest lists "two storage compartments under the seat bases", with deep chaise ends on both sides.
- The hand decides where you reach in. The compartment sits on the chaise side, so check there is room to lift the seat fully, with no lamp, shelf or windowsill in the way. Our guide to left or right hand corner sofas explains how to tell which you need.
- Bed and bedding stay close together. On many corner sofa beds the sleeping area comes from the main seat while the storage is in the chaise, so the bedding is stored a step away from where it is needed.
Typical compartment sizes
Not every product page lists a compartment size. Where one does, the numbers vary a lot from model to model:

How to read those figures:
- The compartment figures are not labelled. The overall size is marked W × D × H; the compartment is not. If you need to know which figure is the depth, message our team before you plan around it.
- Depth usually decides what fits. For bedding, the footprint is rarely the problem; the height you can stack is. Every other page in the table lists a smallest figure between 17 and 27 cm, while Goldcrest Mini lists 41 cm.
- Usable space can be a little less. Hinges, stays and frame rails take up room, so leave some slack rather than planning to the last centimetre.
- No size listed? Several of our corner sofa beds list storage but no compartment size, including Mistral M29, Hollingwood Mini M04 and U Shape Goldcrest. Sizes vary, so check the product page or ask us.

What fits: bedding, pillows, games
What follows is general guidance, not a measured SOFGO claim. Bedding varies hugely in bulk, so the best test is your own. Fold what you want to store to roughly the footprint of the compartment, stack it, and measure the height of the pile. Then compare it with the product page.
- A guest bedding set. A fitted sheet, duvet cover and pillowcases fold flat and take very little depth, so they suit even a shallow compartment.
- Throws and blankets. Easy to fold and light to lift out.
- A duvet. Usually the bulkiest item. A UK double duvet is typically 200 × 200 cm, so folded into quarters it is roughly 100 × 100 cm across. Its thickness depends on the tog and filling: a summer-weight duvet folds far flatter than a winter one.
- Pillows. A standard UK pillow is around 50 × 75 cm. Hollow-fibre pillows squash down; memory foam does not. Pillows are the item that most often stops a lid closing.
- A mattress topper. A thin topper folds or rolls; a thick foam one is bulky, so measure it first.
- Board games, puzzles and children's things. Flat boxes stack neatly and keep a family room tidy.
As a rough plan, a shallow compartment suits sheets, pillowcases, a throw and a light blanket. A deeper one can take a full guest set with a duvet and pillows. If you are getting ready for visitors, our guide to sofa beds for Christmas guests covers sleeping area sizes and a guest-ready checklist.

What not to store
A storage chaise is a closed box under a seat that people sit on. Keep these out:
- Anything damp. Bedding that is not fully dry can turn musty, or worse, in an enclosed space.
- Food and pet food. Both smell and attract pests.
- Heavy items. They make the seat harder to lift and put strain on the base. Keep it to soft, light things.
- Anything fragile or valuable. Remember that people will be sitting on top of it.
- Electricals, batteries and anything flammable, such as candles, aerosols or cleaning products.
- Things you need every day. If you are lifting the chaise daily, a basket nearby will serve you better.
- More than it holds. If you have to press the seat down to close it, take something out.
One safety point: don't let children play or hide in the compartment, and check that a pet hasn't climbed in before you close it.

Keeping stored bedding fresh
Bedding that sits in a closed compartment for months needs a little care, or it comes out flat and smelling of the cupboard.
- Wash and dry everything completely before it goes in. Dry is the single most important rule.
- Use breathable bags, such as cotton storage bags or a spare pillowcase, rather than sealed plastic, which can trap moisture.
- Use vacuum bags only if you need the depth. They save space in a shallow compartment, but make sure everything is bone dry first, and shake and air the bedding when it comes out so it regains its loft.
- Add something fresh, like a lavender bag or a cedar block, and avoid strong perfumes that cling to fabric.
- Lift the seat every few weeks and leave it open for a few minutes to air the compartment, especially in winter when rooms stay closed up.
- Vacuum the compartment now and then. Dust and crumbs find their way in.
- Air the bedding before guests arrive. Hang it up for a day, or tumble it on a cool setting if the care label allows.
FAQs
Will a double duvet fit in a sofa bed storage chaise?
Often, but it depends on the compartment's depth and the duvet's tog. A double folded into quarters is roughly 100 × 100 cm across. Fold yours, measure the height of the pile and compare it with the size listed on the product page. If a page lists no compartment size, ask us.
Which SOFGO sofa beds list a storage compartment size?
Some do, including Goldcrest Mini (130 × 90 × 41 cm) and Lindorf X100 (80 × 77 × 18 cm), plus the others in the table above. Others, such as U Shape Goldcrest, Mistral M29 and Hollingwood Mini M04, list storage but no size.
Is a storage chaise the same as a sofa bed with storage underneath?
Both put a compartment in the base. A storage chaise has it under the chaise end; on other designs it sits under the main seat or, as on the U Shape Goldcrest, under both chaise ends. The product page says where.
Can I keep pillows in the chaise?
Yes, if there is depth to spare. Soft pillows squash down, but check the seat closes without pressing.
How do I stop stored bedding smelling musty?
Store it clean and fully dry in breathable bags, air the compartment every few weeks, and air the bedding before use.
Does the U Shape Goldcrest have storage?
Yes. Its page lists two storage compartments under the seat bases and deep chaise ends on both sides, but no compartment sizes.
