A new sofa is a big delivery. It arrives in large, heavy pieces, it has to come through your front door and along your hallway, and somebody has to put it together and deal with the packaging. Knowing what happens on the day makes it far less stressful.

This guide explains exactly how sofa delivery and assembly works at SOFGO: the two delivery options, what to sort out before the day, how you hear about your time slot, what the team does when they arrive, and what to check before they leave. Everything here comes from our delivery, FAQ and returns pages, checked on 8 October 2026.

Door drop or room of choice (both free)

In the words of our delivery page, "every order is delivered by our own two-person teams." You pick the option that suits you at checkout, and both are free to most of mainland UK:

  • Delivery to your door. "Dropped at your front door, you unpack and set up."
  • Delivery and assembly in the room you choose. "We carry it in, build it in the room of your choice and take the packaging away — assembly is free."

Delivery is free whether you order one sofa or a full set. A few charges apply in some cases, and they are per order, not per item:

  • Red zone postcodes: £149 per order for postcode areas AB, DD, EX, FK, IV, KY, PH, PL, SA, TQ and TR.
  • Upper floors without a lift: £49 for the 1st to 4th floor, or £199 for the 5th to 12th floor, per order. It is free on the ground floor, or on any floor with a lift. If you live higher than the 12th floor with no lift, please contact us before ordering.
  • Where we don't deliver: we're sorry, but we don't deliver to Northern Ireland (BT), the Scottish islands (including HS, ZE, Orkney, Skye, Arran, Bute, Cumbrae, Islay, Jura, Mull and the Small Isles), Caithness and the far north of Scotland (KW postcodes), the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or the Isles of Scilly.

The Delivery section of each product page sums up the same options and charges.

Which should you choose? The door drop suits you if you have help at home and are happy to carry, unpack and build the sofa yourselves. For most people buying a corner sofa or a corner sofa bed, delivery to the room of your choice is the easier option: it costs nothing extra, the heavy lifting is done for you, and you are not left with a hallway full of cardboard.

Pale oatmeal Merevale modular corner sofa with a deep chaise end on the right and matching cushions, set on a rug with a round oak coffee table in a bright living room
Merevale Modular Corner Sofa, £2,599 (view product). From our Exclusive Designer Collection. Shown in its "As shown" pale oatmeal finish with the chaise on the right as you face it; the page lets you choose a left or right corner. Listed at 320 cm wide, 200 cm deep and 72 cm high. Made to order — 12–15 weeks. Pay by debit or credit card, or Klarna (subject to eligibility and status).

Before the day: access and space

A little preparation makes the delivery quicker and safer for everyone, whichever option you choose.

  1. Measure the route before you order. Check the width and height of your front door, any internal doors, the narrowest point of the hallway and any tight turns or stairs, then compare them with the measurements on the product page. Our guide will a corner sofa fit through my door? walks you through it, and how to measure a room for a corner sofa helps you check the sofa suits the room itself.
  2. Tell us about stairs and floors. If the sofa is going to a flat or an upper floor without a lift, the floor charge above applies, so make sure it is reflected in your order. If anything about access is unusual, message our team before the day.
  3. Clear the route. Move shoes, coats, bikes, rugs and anything fragile out of the hallway and off the stairs. Take down pictures on tight corners if they could be knocked.
  4. Clear the space for the sofa. Move the old sofa, the coffee table and anything else out of the area where the new one will go, so the team can build it in place.
  5. Think about parking. If parking outside your home is difficult, it helps to keep a space clear near the door.
  6. Plan for pets and children. Keep them in another room while the front door is open and large pieces are being carried.

The two-hour window

You don't need to wait in all day. As our delivery page puts it, "we text you a delivery date and a two-hour window."

A few practical points:

  • Check your mobile number at checkout, because that is where the text goes.
  • Keep the window free and make sure someone is at home to let the team in.
  • Track your order at any time on our order tracking page, using the reference from your confirmation and the email address you ordered with.
  • If something changes, message our team as soon as you can. We are here from 8am to 10pm, every day.

How long you wait for that delivery date depends on the sofa. Each product page shows its own lead time, so check it before you order. Some items are shown as in stock, while our Exclusive Designer Collection, such as the Merevale and Wyndham pictured here, is made to order, with the page showing "Made to order — 12–15 weeks". You can browse everything currently in stock on our in-stock page.

If the sofa is for visiting family, our guide to sofa beds for Christmas guests covers lead times and planning ahead.

Carry-in, build and packaging removal

If you chose delivery and assembly in the room you choose, this is what the team does. Our delivery page sums it up in one line: "we carry it in, build it and take the packaging away".

  • Carry-in. The two-person team brings the sofa into your home and through to the room you have chosen.
  • Build. They put it together in the room, in the spot you have cleared for it. Decide exactly where you want it to sit before they start, because a large corner sofa is easier to place while it is being built than to move once it is finished.
  • Packaging removal. On the free assembly service, as our FAQ says, "we unwrap everything and take the packaging with us." There is no cardboard, plastic or foam left for you to break down or take to the tip.

If you chose the door drop instead, the sofa is left at your front door and the unpacking, carrying in and building are up to you. Have a second person on hand, a clear route and some space to work.

Checking your sofa before the team leaves

Our returns page asks you to "please check the item while the delivery team is with you and photograph anything damaged where possible." It only takes a few minutes:

  • Is it the right sofa? Check the model, the colour and the fabric against your order confirmation.
  • Is the corner on the right side? Stand facing the sofa. If the long chaise section is on your left, it is a left corner; if it is on your right, it is a right corner.
  • Look over the fabric on the seats, backs, arms and the back of the sofa for marks, snags or tears, and check the seams.
  • Check the feet and the frame. The sofa should sit level and not rock, and every foot should be in place.
  • Try the features. On a sofa bed, open and close the bed. On a storage model, lift the lid and lower it again.
  • Check nothing is missing, such as cushions or feet, against your order confirmation.

If something is wrong, photograph it while the team is still there. Our delivery page asks you to contact us within 48 hours with a photo if anything is faulty or damaged on arrival, and we will repair, replace or collect. Email support@sofgo.co.uk with your order number. Under our returns policy, faulty, damaged or incorrect items are put right at our cost, including collection, and reporting it does not affect your legal rights. If the wrong item arrives, we collect it and bring the one you ordered, or refund you in full, whichever you prefer.

If you simply change your mind, you have 14 days to tell us, starting the day after delivery. Our returns page explains how change-of-mind returns and collection work, so it is worth reading before the day.

FAQs

Is sofa delivery and assembly free?

Yes, to most of mainland UK. Both delivery to your door and delivery with assembly in the room you choose are free. Red zone postcodes carry a £149 surcharge per order, upper floors without a lift cost £49 (1st to 4th floor) or £199 (5th to 12th floor) per order. We don't deliver to Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, Caithness and the far north of Scotland (KW postcodes), the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or the Isles of Scilly.

Do you deliver to the room of my choice?

Yes. Choose delivery and assembly in the room you choose at checkout, and our two-person team will carry the sofa in, build it in that room and take the packaging away.

Do sofa delivery teams take the packaging away?

Ours do on the free assembly service: "we unwrap everything and take the packaging with us." With delivery to your door, the sofa is dropped at your front door and you unpack it yourself.

How will I know when my sofa is arriving?

We text you a delivery date and a two-hour window. You can also check your order on our tracking page.

How much does it cost if I live in a flat?

On the ground floor, or on any floor with a lift, there is no floor charge. Without a lift, it is £49 per order for the 1st to 4th floor and £199 per order for the 5th to 12th floor. Above the 12th floor with no lift, please contact us before ordering.

What if my sofa arrives damaged?

Check it while the team is with you and photograph any damage. Contact us within 48 hours with a photo, and we will repair, replace or collect, at our cost.
