"Will a sofa fit through my door?" is the question that stops a lot of orders. You like the look, you've measured the room, and then you picture a huge L-shape jammed in a Victorian hallway.

The good news is that most corner sofas — and almost all of our corner sofa beds — do not arrive as one rigid piece. They come in separate sections and are put together in the room. That is why access is usually easier than the assembled size suggests. This guide shows you what to measure, how to read the numbers on a product page, and what to do if the route still looks tight.

Why corner sofas are easier than they look (sections)

An assembled corner sofa can look enormous. Our Verity Corner Sofa Bed With Storage M84 is listed at 222 cm wide and 133 cm deep. The Goldcrest K42 is listed at 260 cm wide with a 150 cm chaise. Neither of those footprints would turn a tight stairwell as a single box.

They do not have to. Sofas of this type are designed to travel in sections: the main seating part, the chaise, the cushions, and the hardware. Our two-person delivery team carries those pieces through the door, builds the sofa in the room you choose, and takes the packaging away when you pick free delivery + assembly.

So the assembled width on the product page answers "will it fit in my room?" The route in is about the size of the boxed sections and how they turn. Product pages list assembled dimensions clearly; they do not always list the boxed section sizes. If you need those for a particular model, message us with the sofa name and your doorway and hallway measurements, and we will advise.

The four access measurements

You need four numbers, not one. Take them with a tape measure, write them down, and keep the tape at the narrowest point rather than at floor level if skirting or radiators stick out.

1. Door clear width

Open the door fully and measure the clear opening from jamb to jamb (or from the open door edge to the opposite jamb if the door does not fold flat). Do not measure the door leaf itself. Note anything that narrows the gap: a protruding lock, a thick frame, or a porch door that only opens part-way.

2. Door clear height

Measure from the floor (or the threshold, if it is raised) to the underside of the frame. Low porch canopies and older cottage doors can be tighter than you expect once a box is tilted.

3. Hallway width

Walk the route from the front door to the living room. Measure the narrowest stretch, including radiators, banisters, shoe racks and coat hooks. If there is a second doorway along the way, measure that clear width too.

4. Tightest turn (and stairs, if any)

At every corner where a long box would have to pivot, note the space you have to swing it. On stairs, also note the width between the wall and the banister, the height under any landing overhang, and whether the landing is large enough to rest a section while the team repositions.

Those four measurements are enough for us to say whether a model looks comfortable or whether we should look at a more compact option with you.

Doorways, hallways and turns

A standard modern internal door is often around 76 cm clear when open, and many front doors are a little wider. Victorian and 1930s houses vary a lot: a narrow hallway with a radiator halfway along is more common than a clear 90 cm corridor.

When you are comparing models, use the assembled size for the room, and the route measurements for access. Compact corner sofa beds help on both counts if the room is small too:

Sofa Price Assembled size (as listed)
Linden Bay M99 £779 213 × 132 cm (W × D)
Verity M84 £779 222 × 133 × 72 cm (W × D × H)
Goldcrest Mini M04 £699 235 × 150 × 91 cm (W × D × H)
Goldcrest K42 £799 260 cm wide, 150 cm chaise, 91 cm depth, 86 cm high
Fairhaven M84 £1,199 275 × 205 × 87 cm (W × D × H)

Light grey Cottesmore curved modular corner sofa from the Exclusive Designer Collection
Cottesmore Modular Corner Sofa, £2,899 (view product). From our Exclusive Designer Collection: a fixed corner sofa, not a sofa bed. Listed at 305 cm wide in a durable woven fabric. Made to order, delivery 12–15 weeks.

A few practical tips:

  • Measure with the door open the way it will be on delivery day. A porch door that only opens part-way is not the same as a clear opening.
  • Watch for dog-legs. Two tight turns in a short L-shaped hall are harder than one straight corridor.
  • Clear what you can. Shoes, a plant stand or a hall table give the team a few extra centimetres.
  • Check the room doorway too. The living-room door is sometimes the tightest point.

If you are still choosing which way round the sofa should go, see our guide to left or right hand corner sofas.

Stairs and landings

Stairs worry people more than front doors. A straight stair with a clear wall on one side is usually fine for sectioned sofas. What catches people out is a tight turn at the top, a low ceiling over the flight, or a landing barely wider than the stair itself.

Check:

  • Stair width between the wall (or handrail) and the banister, at the narrowest tread.
  • Head height under any overhang or sloping ceiling.
  • Landing size. Can a long section rest flat while the team turns it into the next doorway?
  • Banister returns and newel posts. Sharp corners eat into the swing space.

If your only route is up a narrow stair with a 180-degree turn on a tiny landing, say so when you contact us. We would rather talk through the boxed section sizes for that model, or suggest a more compact range, before delivery day.

Black Linden Bay compact corner sofa bed with storage in a small living room
Linden Bay Corner Sofa Bed With Storage M99, £779 (view product). Black quilted fabric with deep-buttoned seats. At 213 × 132 cm, it is the smallest corner sofa bed we list — useful when both the room and the route in are tight.

What to do if it looks tight

If your clear door width, hallway or stair turn looks close, do not guess from the assembled size alone.

  1. Write down the four measurements from the checklist above, plus any photos of the tight spots (doorway, hall radiator, stair turn).
  2. Note the sofa name and colour you have in mind — for example Verity M84, Goldcrest Mini M04, or Fairhaven M84.
  3. Contact us or email support@sofgo.co.uk. Tell us those measurements and we can advise on the boxed section sizes for that model and whether the route looks workable.

We will not invent numbers here that are not on the product page. Fairhaven M84, for example, lists a packaged weight of 153 kg and an assembled size of 275 × 205 × 87 cm, but not the carton length, width and height of each section. That is exactly the kind of detail the team can check for you against your access measurements.

If access really is too tight for a larger corner, a more compact model is often the calm answer. Linden Bay and Verity both sit at £779 with assembled footprints under 225 cm wide; browse the full corner sofa beds with storage range once you know your narrowest point.

What our delivery team does on the day

Delivery is designed around getting the sofa into the room, not leaving a puzzle on the pavement. On our delivery page you choose at checkout:

  • Free delivery to your door — dropped at the front door; you unpack and set up.
  • Free delivery + assembly in the room you choose — we carry it in, build it in that room and take the packaging away.

Both options are free on UK mainland orders. Our own two-person teams handle the delivery. We text you a delivery date and a two-hour window. We don't deliver to Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, Caithness and the far north of Scotland (KW postcodes), the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or the Isles of Scilly.

You have 14 days from delivery to tell us if you change your mind (unused, in the original packaging; see the returns details on the delivery page). Payment options on many product pages include card, Klarna or Clearpay (subject to eligibility), and pay on delivery where shown.

Goldcrest Corner Sofa Bed With Storage K42, £799 (view product). Warm ochre velvet-look fabric with pillow-top arms. Listed at 260 cm wide with a 150 cm chaise length — a larger assembled footprint that still arrives in sections for room assembly.

FAQs

Will a corner sofa fit through a standard door?

Often yes, because corner sofa beds usually arrive in separate sections rather than as one rigid piece. Measure your clear door width and height, your hallway and any tight turns, then compare those with advice for the model you want. Product pages show assembled sizes; ask us if you need boxed section sizes for a specific sofa.

What if my sofa won't fit through the door?

Pause before you order and send us your measurements with the sofa name. We can advise on section sizes for that model or suggest a more compact corner such as Linden Bay or Verity. Do not rely on the assembled width alone.

How do I measure for a corner sofa delivery?

Take four measurements: door clear width, door clear height, the narrowest hallway width on the route, and the space at the tightest turn (plus stairs and landing if you have them). Measure the clear opening with the door open, not the door leaf.

Do you assemble the sofa in the room?

Yes, if you choose free delivery + assembly at checkout. Our two-person team carries the sections in, builds the sofa in the room you choose and takes the packaging away. Door-drop only is also free if you prefer to assemble yourself.

Is delivery free across the UK?

Free delivery (door drop or room-of-choice assembly) applies on the UK mainland. We don't deliver to Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, Caithness and the far north of Scotland (KW postcodes), the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or the Isles of Scilly.
