U-Shaped Corner Sofa Beds With Storage: Who They Suit

What a U-shape is (and is not)
A U-shaped corner sofa has a long central seat, a chaise (or return) at each end, and an open “U” that faces into the room.
It is not the same as:
- An L-shaped corner with one chaise — still a corner sofa, but only two sides of seating
- A sofa plus a separate chaise or footstool
- Two sofas pushed together to look like a U — you lose the continuous frame, shared storage and listed overall size
On the U Shape Goldcrest page the feature lines say “Deep chaise ends on both sides” and “Wraparound U layout seats the whole family.” If a sofa has a chaise on one side only, you are looking at an L-shape.
Left- or right-handedness works differently: an L-shape is handed by which end the chaise sits when you face it; a symmetrical U has chaises both ends, so you plan for overall width and depth. Measuring tips still apply: mark the overall width and depth on the floor with tape before you order.

352 cm is roughly 11′6″ along the main wall; 152 cm depth includes the chaise projection. Before you order, tape the footprint, leave a clear centre for a coffee table, and confirm the delivery route. When a U is too much for a small living room
For a u shaped sofa small living room, a full U at 352 cm is rarely right. Compact terrace rooms and studios usually need an L-shaped corner instead.
For scale: Verity M84 is 222 × 133 cm — about 130 cm narrower than the U. Goldcrest Mini M04 is an L-shape at 235 × 150 × 91 cm, £699 (£898 Easy Clean), with sleeping area 218 × 130 cm and storage 130 × 90 × 41 cm; delivery is listed as 2–5 weeks. A U suits open-plan rooms and homes where five or six gather on the sofa. If you only need three seats and one chaise, buy an L-shape.
Two chaises, two storage boxes
Storage is a clear reason to choose this U. The page lists two storage compartments under the seat bases, unlike the single full-width box on many SOFGO L-shapes (including Verity and Goldcrest Mini).
Split guest bedding from everyday throws, keep storage dry, and leave space above each chaise so a lid can open fully.
Seating and sleeping capacity
Seating. The page describes a wraparound U that “seats the whole family.” Chaises at both ends plus a long centre usually seat more people than a three-seater with one chaise. Seat depth 62 cm; seat height 45 cm.
Sleeping. The page says it “Extends into a generous double bed” and lists a sofa-bed seat width of 120 cm. It does not list a full sleeping-area W×L pair, and it does not show the click-clack or pull-out feature lines used on Verity and Goldcrest Mini.

Placement: floating vs against walls
Against walls. Long back on the main wall, chaises returning into the room. Check radiators, sockets and curtains clear the 152 cm depth and 40 cm arms.
Floating. In open-plan spaces the U can define a living zone, open side facing a TV or fireplace. Leave a walkway behind the long back if people pass through to the kitchen — floating needs more total floor than wall-hugging.
Plan the coffee table inside the U, keep middle seats reachable, and allow clear floor in front until you know how the bed extends.
